The proclamation marks the beginning of Holy Week in Almuñécar. The town accompanies the brotherhoods that take out in procession to the different steps as a Christian commemoration of the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus.
To highlight in the holy week of Almuñécar, is the representation on Holy Thursday of the passage in the town hall square.
Easter week is an important celebration for the city of Almuñécar and for this reason citizens, businesses and associations go all out to live it to the fullest.
In 2022 it was no different and that’s why we explain you about it in our post.
However, if you are not used to this celebration, we explain below a bit about what to expect in Almuñécar during Semana Santa. Holy Week in Almuñécar represents the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Christ with sculptural works (thrones) that process through the streets of the municipality, accompanied by penitents, mantillas and devotees.
One of the most striking parts of Holy Week in Almuñécar is the ‘El Paso’ celebration.
It is held on the morning of Good Friday and a large number of people perform an auto sacramental which recreates the journey that Christ made along the Calle de la Amargura.
