Almuñécar is already preparing for one of its spring traditions, the pilgrimage in honor of the patron saint of farmers, San Isidro. This year the eleventh edition of this pilgrimage is celebrated. Which will be on Sunday, May 19, starting from the Torrecuevas neighborhood. Every year it is celebrated on the first Sunday just after May 15, or on May 15 itself if it falls on a Sunday.

Itinerary of the San Isidro Pilgrimage

The departure is scheduled from the Church of El Salvador at nine in the morning; At the end of the celebration of the Holy Mass, and from the door of the temple the procession led by the Carriage that carries the image of San Isidro Labrador pulled by oxen, will go to Puerto de la Cruz Street, and then take Tetuán Street towards the street dedicated to the Granada heroine Mariana Pineda, and all this until reaching the Andalucía roundabout. Next, the procession will continue along the Avenida del Rey Juan Carlos I towards the Carrera de la Concepción and the Carretera del Suspiro del Moro, to later deviate along Calle Molvízar, towards the Camino de la Vega Primera, until reaching Caicillos, until the rambla. from Torrecuevas, where the floats will camp, in which the floats and pilgrims will be placed in order of arrival.

Event organization

The organization of the Pilgrimage in honor of San Isidro Labrador is carried out by the Virgen Madre and San Isidro Brotherhood of the Torrecuevas neighborhood of Almuñécar, the oldest city bathed by the Mediterranean Sea in Spain. That requests the pertinent permits that will be granted by the Sexitano City Council to carry out the route, with its traffic cuts and the decoration of the entire city for the celebration of the event.
The aforementioned Brotherhood already has a history of more than a quarter of a century and in addition to the Pilgrimage of San Isidro Labrador, in honor of the patron saint of farmers, farmers and field workers (shepherds, ranchers, farmers, irrigators…), it also organizes the solemn cult every year on October 12 in honor of the Virgin Mother, who is the patron saint of the Torrecuevas neighborhood.

What does the Pilgrimage consist of?
