Summer in Almuñécar has a special charm. Its beaches, warm atmosphere, cheerful people, and ever-increasing cultural offerings make this town on the Costa Tropical the perfect place to enjoy an unforgettable vacation.
Among the many activities offered during the summer months, there is one that gains more and more followers each year among both locals and visitors: Cinema on the Beach.
In 2025, the Almuñécar City Council and the Departments of Culture and Tourism are once again supporting this long-awaited initiative, which combines open-air cinema, a summer atmosphere, and the incomparable sound of the waves. From mid-July to the end of August, the sand is transformed into a large movie theater, where families, couples, and groups of friends gather to share a unique evening by the sea.
Screenings begin at 10:00 PM, when the sun has set and the temperature invites you to enjoy the outdoors. Screenings are spread out throughout the week, alternating between the two beaches, so that residents and visitors can enjoy the cinema regardless of where they are staying.
The season will begin on Tuesday, July 15th and run through Thursday, August 28th, with a total of more than twelve movie nights scheduled.
One of the strengths of this initiative is the variety of selected films. The Almuñécar Beach Cinema offers a program designed for all audiences, including family films, comedies, dramas, animated films, and recent box office hits.
Among the titles expected for this 2025 edition are major Spanish film hits, international classics, and some surprise films that will be announced throughout the summer. There will also be themed nights, such as sessions dedicated to adventure films, nostalgic 90s movies, and Disney nights for the little ones.
One of the great advantages of this activity is that it’s completely free. No ticket or advance reservation is required. You just need a desire to enjoy the cinema in a unique setting. However, it’s recommended to arrive early to get a good spot, especially on nights with popular films.
Many attendees bring their own folding chairs, cushions, blankets, or even hammocks. It’s also common to bring snacks or refreshments, although there are always beach bars and bars nearby where you can buy something for dinner or drinks during the film.
Watching a movie under a starry sky, with your feet in the sand and the murmur of the sea in the background, is an experience that goes far beyond simply watching a movie. It’s an opportunity to connect with nature, enjoy culture in a relaxed and accessible way, and experience special moments together.
Cinemas on the beach have established themselves as one of the most beloved activities of the Sexitan summer. It’s an ideal experience for those looking for safe, outdoor leisure options suitable for all ages.
