Once again, the season of greatest passion and devotion is beginning to be felt in the streets of the capital of Almuñécar, the oldest city on the Mediterranean coast of Spain. This festival, declared a National Tourist Interest in Andalusia, fills the entire municipality with tradition and devotion. This year, Holy Week is slightly delayed, as it will be celebrated from April 11, 2025, Good Friday, until Sunday, April 20, Easter Sunday. Processions with images of Our Lord Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary will parade through the streets, carried on the shoulders of costaleros (costaleros), accompanied by penitents and manolas (manolas). Palm Sunday:
- Brotherhood of the Triumphal Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem (Borriquita)
Before their departure, the ceremony of the Blessing of Palms and Olives will be held at the doors of the Parish Church of the Incarnation. At the end of the Mass, from that precise moment, hundreds of children and adults dressed in white and blue will parade throughout the city announcing the beginning of Holy Week in Sexitana.
